possible after the kill. Internal
organ wounds from shot shells and arrows tend to cause a very quick
deterioration of the quality of the birds’ meat, especially on mild or
warm days. Most of us like to
weigh our turkeys intact, before cleaning them, which is fine, but you
should gut the bird immediately after that to have the best tasting meat.
An open body cavity allows good air circulation and fast cooling of
the meat, which greatly enhances the fine-tasting turkey, whether roasted
or fried later.
A properly field dressed bird can safely be left to cool in the
shade, or in a cooler, for many hours before skinning, picking, or
breasting out the meat.”

To use a Gut
Wrench:
1.
Cut a small slit in the vent hole
of the bird.
2. Insert Gut
Wrench into the vent
and push it through the birds’
body cavity
until the point of the
tool hits the breast bone.
3.
Turn Gut
Wrench one full turn
and pull the tool out along with
the
guts.
